Welcome
My Name is Barrie Wilson.
I am taking over as District Commissioner from June 10th 2009.
I thought my first post would be about me and what i have done in Scouting.
I started in Cubs when I was 8 years old (Oct 1977)
The cub pack was Thursday night at the 68th Inverkeithing.
My Cub Leader was Sarah Giles.
My DC at the time was John Lyson.
When I was 9 years old my Family moved to Dalgety Bay and we contacted the local GSL who was Gerry Pike at the time.
I moved to Friday night cubs with Maureen Pike as my Cub leader.
When I was old enough I moved up to Donibristle scouts which was a newly formed scout troop in the group (1980).
We met at Donibristle Primary school until the group acquired the scout hall that we are in today.
I worked through the section becoming a patrol leader but never winning anything (i.e. Totem compertion)
When I was 15.5 I moved on to Venture scouts and started to work towards my Queen Scout which I gained just before my 20th Birthday (1989)
I was awarded my warrant in Nov 1987 as a scouter with Donibristle Scout troop and was a large part of the link between the group and the guide company in Ireland.
Also in may 1988 I was asked if I could go and help out with St David’s Cub Pack on a Wednesday night which I obliged.
Then during the summer the cub leader resigned her post and I took over as Akela.
I did this role for several years and even moved to take over the reigns on Friday’s (St Bridgets Pack) when my work commitments got too much.
I was approached in the summer of 2001 when a new section was getting formed (Explorers) and was asked if I would take on the role of Desc.
I accepted and started this section from scratch.
I also was an ESL for the 48th Dalgety bay during this time.
In Explorers we have offered large amounts of different activities from International trips to conservation work to even just chill out time.
The biggest moment as the Desc came in 2007 when we had in Rosyth District 5 Queen Scouts and 3 Explorer Belts.(It makes all the work worthwhile).
In April 2008 I was approached by the new region to take on the role of ARC for East region (Explorers) Which I took on the role.
My last piece of the jigsaw so far will take place on June 10th when I take on the position of DC for Rosyth District.
